Hebridean Odyssey Cycle Challenge
The challenge will take you 174 miles across the Outer Hebrides by bike. The trip offers an opportunity to experience a unique challenge whilst raising valuable funds to support VETAID’s work in Africa.
The Outer Hebrides or Western Isles, as they are alternatively known, are situated on the extreme North West of Scotland. The Hebrides, known as the 'Long Island', stretch for over 100 miles. The Hebridean Odyssey Cycle Challenge takes six days, taking us from the Butt of Lewis Lighthouse in the north to Castlebay on the Isle of Barra in the south. Over the course of our cycle we will travel through Lewis, Harris, North Uist, Benbecula, South Uist, Eriskay and finally on to Barra.
Over the six days, participants will be cycling for approx 50 – 60 miles per day, however we will also be taking time to visit cultural attractions such as the Arnol Blackhouse Museum and Calanish Standing Stones. At the end of the challenge the ferry journey home offers a relaxing five hours to enjoy the views as the boat takes us past Ardnamurchan Point and on down through the Sound of Mull, past Tobermory and finally into Oban.
This event is run in collaboration with Charitytrek and dates and fundraising amounts can be found on their website (www.charitytrek.co.uk). You can book directly through them, or you can contact Leonie at leonie@vetaid.org for further information.
