Other events

Almost anything can become a fundraising event so it really depends what you would like to do and what you think will work in your local area.  We have received donations from local events as diverse as harvest suppers, garden open days and diving with sharks.  All events help raise the profile of VETAID and bring in valuable funds for our projects.

Here are some ideas to get your started:

Organise a Social Event
• Pub quiz 
• Themed disco/dance/masked ball/ceilidh
• Concert
• Murder Mystery night
• Karaoke night
• Promises auction - Ask your friends, family and colleagues to make promises which you can then auction e.g. mowing the lawn and doing DIY jobs for a month, cooking a four-course meal for six people, chauffeuring two people in a Bentley, or even knitting a sweater!
• Charity Film Screening

Organise a seasonal event to celebrate
• Halloween
• St Andrew’s night
• Christmas
• Burns night
• Valentine’s Day
• St Patrick’s Day
• Easter

Sponsored sporting events
This is a great way to get fit at the same time as raising money. Involve as many people as possible, all paying a small fee to take part and all raising their own sponsorship money for your target. One runner asked people to sponsor his dog as well – raising extra money!

• Orienteering/treasure hunt
• Horse-riding
• Rowing

Sponsored Non-Sporting
• ‘Bagging’ – i.e. visit as many as possible of something in a given time – on foot, by bike/car/bus/train – for example: peaks, castles, distilleries/breweries, tea-rooms, bus/train stations, supermarkets – and if you do it in fancy dress, more people notice and are more likely to sponsor your efforts
• Film-athon
• Sleep out
• Eating contest – e.g. Jelly, cream crackers, pies, cheese
• 'Survival' eating contest – anything disgusting!
• Fancy dress hitch hike
• Litter collection
• Make/grow and sell – cakes/sweets/greeting cards/pot plants/balloon animals
• Busking
• Personal sacrifice – e.g. donation to VETAID in lieu of birthday/Christmas presents
