They are given a four-week course of theoretical and practical education. After completion the new CAHW’s will be equipped with a basic set of instruments and medicines. The veterinary start-up kit contains medicines such as anthelminthics treatments, acaricides and antibiotics for use against tick-borne diseases as well as syringes, needles, a pan to sterilise equipment, disinfectant, a Burdizzo bloodless castrator and tools to treat infected hooves.
Every 4 months a veterinarian will visit them to give extra support and supervision after the initial training.
